About Scott of UnderstandingVizslas.com

I have many varied interests. My background is in business, accounting, real estate and entrepreneurship. My wife Angela says at heart I am an entrepreneur and coach. I own three Vizslas: Rosco, Daisy, and Lulu. The picture on my Gravatar is Rosco, our oldest.

Realizing the transition to Vizsla ownership was not an easy one for myself and my wife, I decided to create a Vizsla DVD to help educate potential and current Vizsla owners on tips, tricks, and techniques that work well with our dogs.

I look forward to the day when no Vizsla puppies or adult dogs have to be rescued or given up because people did not have the resources to handle this highly energetic breed.

Not only was this unavailable when we got our puppy (over ten years ago now!), but the vet we had was very vocal about what bad people we were for going to a breeder instead of getting a rescue dog. We then changed vets to a new guy in town. He had time and patience for all our questions. We found out later – much later – he did pit bull rescue. Which was why he really understood how bad dogs and their owners could be. We weren’t bad owners, just clueless. The Vizsla on the other hand – wow, I thought Siamese cats were bad. They were mild by comparison. But we all lived through it and he’s been a good dog for years.

Our best solution was doggy daycare. He hung out with several Weimaraners and they ran each other into the ground. And a tired Vizsla is a much better behaved Vizsla. But those first few years, the energy was limitless.

    • 🙂 we did doggy daycare as well…sounds silly, but it made a HUGE difference. That’s part of the reason we have 3…they can chase eachother way better than I can! Our latest habit is bike rides…I take all three of them at the same time. It’s a little sketchy when we pass the geese, but other than that it’s a blast. And yes, a tired Vizsla is a much better behaved Vizsla:-) All sorts of trouble happens when they are bored, well mainly just for Rosco! (poor guy)

We got the beagle for the same reason, but it was not a good match. The beagle was durable for the rough play, but he didn’t run the Vizsla around enough. Still, he’s a sweet boy and I love him.

3 dogs and on a bike? You’re a brave man! Although they’re all a little older, which helps a lot.

      • some call it brave…others call it crazy!:-)
